Fiat Punto Review

The Fiat Punto has been around for a while, but it’s still one of the best superminis on the market. A fun and functional little ride ideally suited to city driving, this compact motor is a sure-fire way of bringing a small slice of Italian pizzazz to your driveway. So, what makes this latest model such an appealing proposition?

Available as a three or five door option, the redesigned Fiat Punto has a number of new features that make it more comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and exciting to drive. It’s one of the biggest cars in its class, but the sleek lines give it that dynamic edge that proves the car is ‘sporty, yet sophisticated’.

The latest additions to the Punto include a new eye-catching honeycomb grille and bumpers that match the body colour. This new look acts as something of an optical illusion, making the car seem longer than it actually is.

This Fiat is available in a range of colours and alloy wheels come as standard. Whether you opt for ‘Exotica Red’, ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Blue’ or one of the metallic shades, the Fiat Punto will turn heads wherever you go.

The sleek and sporty design is carried through to the interior of the new Fiat Punto. The design of the cabin – including the trims, seats and accessories – is unmistakably Italian, and oozes style out of every pore.

The Fiat Punto boasts elements that both look and feel high quality – the smooth textures and leather steering wheel embody the ‘premium’ essence of this car. This air of quality is what sets it apart from others in its class.

For a small car, the Fiat Punto is packed full of fun gadgets to make your driving experience more entertaining. If you look at the steering wheel, you’ll notice the hands-free Bluetooth control for your music and your phone. If you don’t fancy tapping away at buttons while behind the wheel, you can always use the inbuilt voice command system.

The Easy+ model of the Fiat Punto brings some specific new toys to the table – a TomTom 2 sat nav comes as standard, and is used as a removable wireless screen that fits neatly into the dashboard. On both models, the dashboard has intuitive and practical features.

On the road

The Fiat Punto is available with two different engines. Both are designed to deliver the best in performance and efficiency, with low emissions and fuel consumption rates. The addition of Fiat’s in-car app ‘eco:Drive’ will also help drivers tackle the roads more efficiently.

The Easy+ has a couple of little extras that make this car a much better drive – the front fog lights, comfy castiglio fabric seats, and leather steering wheel and gear knob covers.

Both models of the Fiat Punto are available with stop-start technology, ABS and EBD braking, Isofix attachments (for child seats), ESP and hill holder (which enables easy hill starts and controls traction). The Fiat Punto will keep you safe whilst you’re on the road, and let you enjoy an easy drive from A to B.

A huge plus for this car is that the boot is large and well-shaped. On the Pop+ model, the split-folding rear seats are an extra option, but they’re standard on all other models. They’re really worth getting too if you’re used to lugging around a lot of hefty stuff (like prams, shopping, sports equipment or guitar amps).

Our verdict

The main differences between the Fiat Punto Pop+ and the Easy+ include alloy wheel size (15” or 16”), as well as addition features like automatic dual system climate control, split folding seats and the inbuilt navigation system. All of these are available as standard in the Easy+.

The Fiat Punto is a great car for young drivers who are just starting out. Drivers can keep expenditure down thanks to the Punto’s low running costs, and feel more protected on the roads with the car’s vast array of safety features. The exceptionally comfortable ride and extra boot-space make the Punto choice for long road-trips. It’s a highly practical car, and one of the biggest and best looking superminis on the road today. Combined all this with the super-smart interior and tech features, and you can’t go too far wrong.
