The Seat Ibiza Cupra is nearly 20 years old and to keep things fresh Seat are bringing out a more powerful version to bring it in line with the rest of the updated range.
Subtle Changes On The Outside
Many of the external styling changes are small but refined. Essentially it is just the addition of LED headlights that are the major changes to the Ibiza model as a whole but the Cupra will have the usual styling tricks like a central exhaust, larger wheels, darker diffuser and different bumpers.
Bigger Changes Underneath
The real changes have gone on under the bonnet with an increase power output which now sits at an impressive 189 bhp. The old 177 bhp 1.4 engine has been replaced by a larger 1.8 litre engine also seen in the Volkswagen Polo GTi. This engine delivers more power and more torque through the usual front wheel drive set up and a very exciting 6 speed manual gear box. This new version of the Ibiza Curpa is only available with this manual gearbox unlike its predcessor which had a 7 speed dual clutch DSG box. The manual box is considerably lighter and so gets the car from 0-60 0.2 seconds faster, the overall time is now just 6.7 seconds and the Cupra will plough on to a top speed of 146 mph. What is really exciting is that even though it has a bigger engine and all these performance stats to show off, the car will still return around 47 MPG. That kind of economy figure is not common in a sporty car and Seat will be making sure everyone knows about it.
Using the manual gearbox has another little bonus up it’s sleeve too, because it is cheaper to produce the new Cupra will actually cost less than the outgoing model. This really is great news for people who like some performance in their cars but don’t want to spend every penny they have for the pleasure.
Other upgrades include the addition of a driver profile system which allows the driver to set their preferred steering weight and suspension settings via a choice of multiple driving modes. A new steering wheel, air vents and instrument panel are also on offer along with a multi operating system compatible touch screen system.
The New Ibiza Cupra will be hitting the showrooms in January, get your order in soon, this is going to be a very desirable car.
