The all-new Renault Twingo has scooped a coveted award at the 2015 British GQ Car Awards, having been named “Best Answer to the City Car Dilemma”.
Just one of eight production cars to pick up an award at the Awards hosted by the monthly men’s publication, the Twingo impressed judges thanks to its affordability, practicality and stylishness.
Sitting alongside cars far above its price point, including a fair amount supercar and exotica peers, the Twingo also came in at just a third of the price of the next most affordable car at the awards.
Affordable, practical and fun
Of the Twingo, GQ said: “There’s more to the Twingo than the de rigeur small-car visage and graphics. It’s powered by a frothy little rear-mounted, three-cylinder turbocharged engine; an unusual setup that improves interior space and adds a welcome USP. Fun, in a nutshell.”
Now in its third generation, the all-new Twingo went on sale last September and won resounding critical praise for its charming looks, driving characteristics and innovative layout.
Ken Ramirez, Renault UK’s managing director, said: “All-new Twingo represents a bold innovation in the city car category with its clever rear-engined layout.
“We were always confident that our latest Twingo would prove to be a hit so everyone at Renault is thrilled to see our newest city car recognised at the 2015 GQ Car Awards, especially alongside such sports cars and exotica.”
Since its release, just some of the awards picked up by the new city car include major accolades like being named City Car of the Year at the UK Car of the Year Awards and Best City Car by the Daily Express.
Last December, it was also named City Car of the Year at the Top Gear Magazine Awards, once again fending off stiff competition from more expensive cars, including several high-performance supercars.
Long list of critical successes
Sam Philip, one of Top Gear Magazine’s senior writers, said: “This is a masterwork of packaging, that knotty art of carving a large amount of space from within a very small wheelbase.
“The Twingo should be celebrated for what it is, a car that does the business of being a city car better than anything else out there.”
Available in three trim levels and with a wide range of body colour and customisation options, the Twingo is as stylish as it is unique with a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive powertrain layout.
One of the most innovative and cutting-edge superminis currently on the market, the Twingo’s engine layout not only boosts its driving characteristics but its practicality as well, with plenty of interior space and a small turning circle.
Available to buy from Perrys Renault dealerships now, the all-new Renault Twingo is priced from only £9,495 for the entry-level Expression trim.
