SEAT unveils new 20V20 concept

SEAT has lifted the curtain off a dramatic and dynamic new concept model at the Geneva Motor Show, the 20V20.

According to the manufacturer, the new concept stands for Vision 2020, presenting a clear vision of SEAT’s aims for the future, as well as previewing a new direction for its design language.

Based on the form of a powerful looking sports SUV, SEAT claims that the 20V20 will reinvent the concept of an SUV, taking aesthetics and drivability to “the highest level” ever seen in a car.

“Reflects SEAT’s ambition”

Speaking at the unveiling, SEAT’s president Jürgen Stackmann said: “The 20V20 reflects SEAT’s ambition in the future. With this showcar we are highlighting how we intend to develop our brand’s design language.

“At SEAT we aim to develop and produce highly emotional cars that appeal to our customers, with plenty of character, innovative design, modern technology, quality and precision at an affordable price.”

“With these values that characterise SEAT and set us apart from the competition,” he added, “we strive to be, and will be, the first choice of young-spirited, dynamic customers.”

Tough and dynamic, marrying the drama of a sporty four-door coupe with the versatility and presence of an SUV, the 20V20 rides on huge 20-inch wheels and features full LED headlights.

Spacious on the inside, SEAT says that it can comfortably seat five people, and it also comes outfitted with an extensive suite of advanced driver assistance, comfort and safety technology.

According to the manufacturer, the SEAT 20V20 will also offer a wide range of engine options, from high-performance petrols to turbocharged diesels and even plug-in hybrid models.

While it’s still only in the concept stage, SEAT has said that the 20V20 features a DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox, along with four-wheel drive with electronic traction assistance systems.

Could be introduced by 2020

The 20V20 concept isn’t quite yet ready to be put into production, but the company has said that it represents the direction that the company is aiming to go, as it diversifies its range.

Following on from the release of the Leon X-PERIENCE crossover last year, it’s expected that SEAT could start manufacturing an SUV model based on the 20V20 concept as early as in five years’ time.

“This shows the brand can move and make progress,” said the SEAT president. “It’s a five-year outlook, not a proposal for next year. We have to get the brand ready, and the dealers ready, for a car like this in five years’ time.”
