Land Rover took home a total of four awards at the 2015 What Car? Car of the Year Awards, further adding to the marque’s incredible award-winning history.
The awards haul was spearheaded by the all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport, which took home the Safety Award after impressing judges with its wide and comprehensive list of safety features.
As well as the Discovery Sport, the popular Range Rover Evoque also took home an award, as did the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport models.
The What Car? judging panel said that the Discovery Sport was awarded with its prize in recognition of Land Rover’s commitment to deliver effective and advanced new safety systems for drivers.
Judges stated that they were extremely impressed with the Discovery Sport’s extensive safety kit list and five-star Euro NCAP rating, with adult protection given the second highest rating of the year.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport’s safety feature list includes new autonomous emergency braking as standard, plus dynamic stability control, lane departure warning and seatbelt reminder systems.
Murray Dietsch, director of Land Rover Programmes, said: “Winning this award provides Discovery Sport with valuable, independent validation of its exceptional quality and ability.
“Safety was a fundamental priority in the development of Discovery Sport as a true family vehicle. This award rewards the no-compromise, pioneering work we have invested in the model.”
Trophies all round
The Range Rover Evoque, meanwhile, was named the best compact SUV over £22,000, with What Car? praising its “impressive and attractive” features and its success with buyers.
Likewise, the Range Rover was also named the best luxury car priced between £70,000 and £100,000, thanks to its ability to satisfy customers’ increasingly diverse and sophisticated tastes.
Alongside that, What Car? also noted the Range Rover’s real-world ability, claiming it to be “the only luxury car with real go-anywhere potential” and its position as a globally-recognised status symbol.
Jaguar Land Rover UK’s managing director, Jeremy Hicks, said: “At the top of the market, Range Rover remains a formidable performer in delivering bespoke luxury and exceptional performance capabilities.”
The final award for the British marque came for the Range Rover Sport, which was named the overall best large SUV thanks to its class-leading quality and performance.
Judges highlighted the “sprightly acceleration” of the engine, along with its long list of equipment like the all-terrain progress control which automatically sets vehicle speed over rough terrain.
Jeremy Hicks said: “Range Rover Sport remains pre-eminent in its class and our continuous improvement of Range Rover Evoque is sustaining its award-winning quality three years on from its launch.
