Jaguar has announced the winner of its social media-led competition to present a unique design approach for the brand’s F-TYPE sports car.
The contest invited designers to showcase a concept which represents the theme ‘Fearless Design’ using #FearlessDesign on Twitter or Instagram. Entrants used the social media applications to describe in 140 characters or less the inspiration and details behind their concept.
The winning entry was selected by Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum, who was responsible for the look of the F-TYPE convertible and coupe. The F-TYPE convertible was the winner of the World Car Design of the Year award back in 2013.
Winning the competition was a design by freelance interior designer and architect, Justin Silke, who named his entry ‘Untamed Creativity’. This uniquely designed Jaguar F-TYPE will become a focal point of the Jaguar suite of exhibits at Clerkenwell Design Week 2014, which will run between the 20th and 22nd May.
Ian Callum commented: “We were very pleased with the calibre of designs submitted, but the winning concept embodies Jaguar’s design ethos of visual drama and individualism.”
Alongside Jaguar’s exclusive exhibitions will be a standard production version of the new F-TYPE R Coupe, recently launched to the UK market and priced from £85,000.
The F-TYPE R Coupe features a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine with 488bhp. It gives the Coupe a zero to 60mph sprint time of just four seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 186mph.
Further down the range there is the standard trim F-TYPE Coupe which is currently priced from £51,235. The starting price of the standard Coupe is over £7,000 less compared to the basic price for a standard F-TYPE convertible.
The standard Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe doesn’t feature the same V8 engine as the R model but still boasts 335bhp from a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. This powertrain allows the Coupe to go from a standstill to 60mph in 5.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 161mph.
The mid-range model in the F-TYPE Coupe range is called the F-TYPE S, and it’s priced from £60,235. This model also utilises a 3.0-litre V6 engine but power output is increased to 375bhp. The result is a zero to 60mph sprint time of 4.8 seconds and a limited top speed of 171mph.
All engines for the F-TYPE Coupe range are linked to Jaguar’s advanced eight-speed automatic transmission. This transmission is available with full manual control operated via the steering wheel-mounted paddles or a central lever.
Standard equipment for the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe includes stop-start engine technology and satellite navigation.
