Lotus Cup UK Race Report- Snetterton 300 April 2014

The 2014 Lotus Cup UK season began where the previous 2013 season ended- Snetterton Circuit.

The Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk is a challenging track hosting races for BTCC, British F3, and GT Championships; taking inspiration from iconic motorsport corners such as Monza’s Parabolica and the Montreal Hairpin.

Perrys Chairman Ken Savage and his son Ryan (17) took part in the opening round hoping for a successful start to the season after a disappointing end to the 2013 round. The end of last season saw Ken failing to complete the race after his car suffered a broken alternator.

Qualification saw Ken qualify fourth after successfully managing to hold sway over the fastest Lotus Exiges, while his son Ryan managed to qualify tenth in the production class.

The Race

An exciting opening lap saw Jewell manage to hold off Hall and Randall, however Ken made a brave move around the outside of Riches managing to take the lead.

Ken managed to hold the lead for fifty minutes, building a comfortable gap between him and second place. Unfortunately Ken’s bad luck from the previous season hadn’t ended and his Lotus 211 suffered engine failure meaning he was unable to complete the race. Fortunately Ryan managed to bring his Lotus Elise S1 home in sixth place- a great way to celebrate his 17th Birthday!
