Jaguar XF

The five-door Jaguar XF is available in both saloon and ‘Sportbrake’ estate bodystyles and it boasts a few very solid engines to choose from.

The real highlight in the range is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel with outputs of 163bhp or 190bhp.With either output this large and comfortable saloon combined with this diesel boasts an impressive official fuel economy of 52.3mpg while CO2 emissions are kept at just 149g/km.

Not only does it offer frugal performance for an executive car, the Jaguar XF is spacious and classy in either saloon or estate bodystyles. Standard equipment for the XF includes climate control, parking sensors and Bluetooth connectivity.

Pricing for the Jaguar XF currently starts at £29,945 for the saloon and £31,945 for the Sportbrake.

Mazda3 fastback

The new-generation Mazda3 range was launched earlier this year and has already made huge waves across global markets. So much so has the Mazda3 impressed in fact, it is one of three final shortlisted nominations for the 2014 World Car of the Year award.

Expanding the appeal of the Mazda3 range for this year is the arrival of a new saloon-inspired bodystyle – the five-door fastback.

The Mazda3 fastback offers greater practical advantages over its hatchback counterpart and it’s just an all-round smart-looking and impressively practical car.

In fastback form, the rear seat backrests fold almost flat and the boot opening width is increased by 100mm.

Engines for the Mazda3 fastback include 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol unit, with a combined fuel economy of 56.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 118g/km. There’s also a Skyactiv-D diesel engine which offers even greater efficiency. Prices for the Mazda3 fastback start at £16,995.

Vauxhall Insignia

An updated version of the Vauxhall Insignia range was launched to the UK market back in October last year. Now included for the Insignia are a series of styling updates and new low-emission engines, making it even more attractive to company or family car drivers.

The five-door Insignia offers a solid engine choice featuring a standard 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 138bhp. Also available is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit with 168bhp.

The real eye-catcher though is the 2.0-litre ecoFLEX diesel which can produce either 118bhp or 137bhp. CO2 emissions for the new diesel start from just 99g/km. Engines are mated with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Inside the Insignia offers 500 litres boot space at minimum in hatchback and Sports Tourer derivatives. Standard equipment for the latest Vauxhall Insignia range includes cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels and a multimedia system which supports CDs, MP3 players and Bluetooth.

Prices for the Vauxhall Insignia currently start at £16,474 for the hatchback version.

Peugeot 508

Available in saloon and estate bodystyles, the Peugeot 508 is one of the most impressively designed executive cars on the market both on the outside and inside.

Furthermore the 508 has impressive engines, particularly the e-HDi diesels which are supported with stop-start technology. Other fuel-saving technologies available for the 508 include regenerative braking, helping the car record high fuel economy figures and CO2 emissions from just 109g/km.

Standard kit for the 508 includes 16-inch alloy wheels and Bluetooth connectivity. Prices for the Peugeot 508 range start at £18,595 for the saloon.

Citroen DS5

The Citroen DS5 is a large executive vehicle with an elegant hatchback bodystyle which gives the car a strong premium vibe.

Prices for the Citroen DS5 currently start at £22,960, and its exciting powertrain line up includes the HYbrid 4 diesel-electric.

Combining a diesel engine with an electric motor the DS5 HYbrid 4 emits CO2 emissions as low as 99g/km, returns mileage of up to 74.3mpg and yet delivers a power output of 200bhp.

With low emissions, good mileage, luxury equipment and reasonably low running costs, the DS5 serves greatly as both a family car and business vehicle.
