Order books have already been opened for the Citroen DS3 Cabrio, which starts pricing at £15,045 and will officially be on sale starting from 1 March 2013.
The Citroen DS3 Cabrio will be launched on the exact same date the number ’13’ licence plate comes into effect for newly registered vehicles in the UK.
The three-door Cabrio represents a brand new bodystyle specification for the Citroen DS3 range, joining alongside the original three-door hatchback first launched back in 2010.
With the DS3 Cabrio, Citroen are looking to challenge other stylish convertibles including the Fiat 500C and the Mini Convertible range.
One advantage the Citroen will have over such rivals is in practicality. The boot of the DS3 Cabrio can hold up to 245 litres, more than any other car in its sector.
The most significant feature however for the Citroen DS3 Cabrio is undeniably its soft-fabric convertible roof. It can be fully closed up in just sixteen seconds and operated at speeds of up to 74mph.
The roof can also be opened into three different positions, intermediate, horizontal or total. When it is fully deployed the DS3 Cabrio’s fabric roof offers a premium level of soundproofing against its surroundings.
The Cabrio’s soft-top is finished in Infinite Blue as standard using three different colour threads so as it reacts differently in different light conditions. Two other colours are also available for the convertible roof, called black and DS Monogramme. The DS3 Cabrio will also be sold with seven different bodyshell colours to choose from.
The Citroen DS3 Cabrio is sold with petrol engines to choose from. The units include an 82bhp 1.4-litre VTi, a 120bhp 1.6-litre VTi and a 1.6-litre THP with 155bhp.
As the Cabrio is 25kg heavier then the hatchback equivalent, performance is slightly down in comparison but still very much respectable. With the THP petrol engine the DS3 Cabrio can cover the 0-60mph sprint in 7.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 132mph.
The 82bhp VTi engine is the most efficient in the Cabrio range, returning 57.6mpg on the combined cycle and keeping CO2 emissions to just 112g/km.
There are three distinct trim styles sold with the DS3 Cabrio, starting with DSign and followed by DStyle and DSport. Both DStyle and DSport can receive more kit courtesy of the Plus packages.
Standard equipment includes front fog lights, dark-tinted rear windows and sport suspension.
