Mazda SKYACTIV technology winning global acclaim

Japanese, US-based and Canadian car buyers are buying into the SKYACTIV philosophy which is present in the new Mazda6 and Mazda CX-5.

The Mazda CX-5 has recently been named 2012-13 Car of the Year in Japan, with jurors blown away by the car’s revolutionary SKYACTIV-D 2.2 clean diesel technology.

The car was also inducted into Japan’s Automotive Hall of Fame and finished first in the 2012-13 Car Technology of the Year category.

The Mazda CX-5 has also won ‘Car of the Year’ honours across Europe, including Switzerland, Austria and Germany.

British awards for the CX-5 include What Car? naming the model as Britain’s ‘Best Buy’ SUV in the under £25,000 category. What Car? says, “This really is one of the finest diesels you can buy. It has walloping low-down torque, yet is supremely flexible and happy to rev.”

The CX-5 has also won the Green SUV Award, been given the 2012 Scottish Car of the Year Safety Award, Total 4×4 magazine’s 2013 4×4 of the Year Green Award and the 2013 What Car? Ultra-low-Carbon Award alongside the Mazda6.

The new Mazda6 is also set to hit North American and Canadian markets soon, with Mazda North America President and CEO Jim O’Sullivan confident they’ll be a massive success.

“We think they’re going to make a huge splash, especially when you consider how our clean diesel technology addresses growing consumer concerns about rising fuel costs and the environment.”

“Mazda’s SKYACTIV-D engines have what it takes to change people’s attitudes and overturn the negative preconceptions towards diesels that prevail in the U.S. and Canada.”

The new Mazda CX-5 SUV has won acclaim thanks to its CO2 emissions of 119g/km, with the car also able to return 61.4mpg thanks to its SKYACTIV technology. The new Mazda6 also returns equally impressive figures of 108g/km and up to 67.3mpg.

“Whichever model customers ultimately choose, they can be assured that the Mazda CX-5 makes a genuinely compelling and rewarding ownership proposition,” says Peter Allibon, Sales Director at Mazda UK.

The Mazda CX-5 compact SUV is currently available from £21,395.

The all-new Mazda6 is currently available from £19,595, and is available in saloon and tourer models.
