Vauxhall offers smart fuel-saving lessons to drivers

The planned lessons involved a DVLA-approved instructor taking driving participants around a route through Luton, driving a modern Vauxhall car. Each participant driver were encouraged to drive through the town in their usual driving style for the first lap, before receiving fuel efficiency driving tips on their second lap round.

By making even rather minor, straightforward changes to their driving style, the majority of participating drivers were able to improve their car’s fuel efficiency by 10 per cent or more.

Some drivers even made improvements of up to 30 per cent, equating to a saving of around £700 a year in fuel costs in their particular car.

The driver which made the biggest improvement overall of all was Vauxhall employee Lesley McCaffery who improved her fuel efficiency by a remarkable 30 per cent during the participant run.

McCaffery, who consequently won a month’s worth of gym sessions for having the best rate of improvement, commented: “It’s surprising how much money I can now save by making just a few changes to the way I drive. And the best thing is the tips were all free!”

With smarting driving Vauxhall drivers, whether they are private or company car owners, can not only lower their vehicle’s fuel costs but also its general rate of wear and tear over time. It can also make all drivers in general safer, as fuel-efficient driving has proven to reduce the likelihood of accidents.

A car from the current Vauxhall range can also prove highly suitable for learning the safest and most efficient methods of driving on the road. One particular example is the latest Vauxhall Corsa supermini, available as a three or five-door model.

The car has proven to be a very popular choice as a learner car in the UK, thanks in part to its five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and its selection of practical engines. The current range includes a 94bhp 1.3-litre turbodiesel unit, which on average returns a fuel economy of 85.6mpg. The CO2 emissions figures for this engine is also currently at just 88g/km.

UK motorists can order a new Vauxhall Corsa now, with prices starting from £9,495, at Perrys Vauxhall Dealerships based across Britain.
