Known as the Ford Fusion stateside, the car beat strong competition from the Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIVE and the manufacturer’s own C-Max to take the title.
The car won praise for its reduced petrol usage, its improved overall impact on the environment and its affordable price. Judges believe that its price will help the car achieve a higher sales volume, helping to influence overall environmental improvements.
“We are very honoured that the all-new Ford Fusion has been recognized (sic) as the Green Car of the Year by the Green Car Journal,” said David Mondragon, Ford general marketing manager.
“From EcoBoost to hybrid and plug-in hybrid offerings, the new Fusion is delivering best-in-class fuel economy all wrapped in a dynamic package.”
The new Ford Mondeo is expected to arrive in the UK next year in March, with prices set to be announced closer to the car’s release.
The new Mondeo was first shown to the public at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The car will feature the European debut of Advanced Active Park Assist, and will also include integral link rear suspension.
Engine-wise the new Ford Mondeo will include the manufacturer’s award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine (the current international engine of the year), and will also offer 1.6-litre diesel Econetic technology.
As a segment first, the new Ford Mondeo will also feature Ford SYNC complete with MyFord Touch. The car will also feature an impressive eight-inch colour touchscreen, voice control functionality and a WiFi hotspot for up to five devices.
The current version of the Ford Mondeo is currently available for £18,100 OTR including VAT.
