Though prices and specifications have yet to be confirmed, the two models will enter production in May 2013 before reaching showrooms in the UK and across Europe by mid 2013.
The new Cee’d GT range will use a turbocharged version of the 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine found on standard models. With this boost the unit now produces 201bhp, representing an increase of around 68bhp in comparison to before. The updated engine is connected to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Kia has also revealed that both the Cee’d GT and Pro_cee’d GT can cover the 0-62mph sprint in just 7.9 seconds, that over three seconds faster than it takes in the standard versions of the Cee’d and Pro_cee’d with the 1.6-litre petrol.
The improvement in the pace of both models is helped not only by a more powerful engine, but also by a radical overhauling of the development for the chassis and suspension set-up. The new GT hot hatches look set to deliver a stiffer and more precise driving experience that’ll prove more engaging for those behind the wheel.
To stand out from the rest of the range the new Kia GT hatchbacks also get new exterior styling features, including larger bumpers, a redesigned grille and 18″ alloy wheels. Unique bodypaint finishes are also anticipated.
Inside the Kia GT range will also feature Recaro sports seats and alloy pedals along with other new materials for the dashboard and trim.
Both the Cee’d GT and Pro_cee’d GT will be available to order next year from Perrys Kia Dealerships based in Burnley, Preston and Roterham.
