The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is the latest addition to Ford’s eco-signature range and has already been honoured as Engine of the Year upon its debut on the Ford Focus.
This award didn’t come easy as many other lucrative manufacturers, such as Mazda and Fiat, have also been releasing eco engines with Mazda’s Skyactiv range and Fiat’s 0.9-litre TwinAir range.
The new 1.0-litre EcoBoost comes with two different power outputs: 99bhp and 123bhp. The greenest is the 99bhp variant as it emits just 109g/km and returns up to 58.9mpg. The 123bhp variant emits just 114g/km and returns up to 56.5mpg.
With its low CO2 emissions both EcoBoost variants qualify for zero vehicle excise duty in the first year, as well as a low benefit-in-kind rate of only 13 per cent in 2012/2013.
This new engine will be debuting on the Ford Focus, although it is expected to feature on the C-Max and B-Max later this year.
As well as having a new frugal engine, the Ford Focus also features new Ford SYNC technology, which has been praised for its interactive capabilities. Ford SYNC matches hands free voice control features with other in-car features including radio and Wi-Fi.
Other features of the new Ford Focus include digital radio, Bluetooth and USB compatibility, air conditioning and electronic seats.
The new Ford Focus starts from just £13,995.
Ford vehicles are available from Perrys Ford of Aylesbury and Perrys Ford of High Wycombe dealerships.
