GM Design is celebrating its 85th birthday this month by collating some of the most iconic and attractive models produced by the company over its lifetime.
These include cars from brands like Chevrolet and Vauxhall, as well as some from American giants Buick and Cadillac.
From a list of many different models chosen by 1,900 employees in GM’s 10 different global design centres and include US cars from Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac.
The images are a who’s who of American motoring history and a celebration of designs that have helped to shape the current automotive world.
They also helped to influence some designs that could help influence the next 85 years of motoring in this country – including these three:
This is one of the latest concept cars from GM sub-brand Vauxhall.
It is a two-seater, about the same size as the Renault Twizy, which is fully electric and can travel up to 24mph. Nipping around in the EN-V looks fun, does not emit CO2 and helps solve growing congestion in city areas.

Is this the future of electric mobility? We hope so.
Chevrolet Volt/ Vauxhall Ampera
These vehicles have created a great buzz around the brands as they have both introduced a new E-REV powertrain, which can use electric power for short distances and petrol-electric for up to 350 miles.
This powertrain uses both full electric power as well as a small 1.4-litre petrol engine.
Although they feature a revolutionary engine, style isn’t hindered as they offer strong body contours and highly sculpted front ends.

The Chevrolet Volt and Vauxhall Ampera represent a perfect solution to the problems electric cars face in terms of range and open up electric driving to the mainstream for the first time.
The Chevrolet Camaro is renowned worldwide for being one of America’s most stylish muscle cars. Along with a powerful V8 engine, the Camaro echoes sporty style with a muscular exterior and a highly equipped interior.
