The UK’s biggest van show, based at the NEC, is a chance for manufacturers to reveal their best new vans for 2012 and Fiat has chosen to announce a new Punto-based van for UK buyers.
Based on the hatchback of the same name but with the rear windows replaced by panels and rear seats removed, the Fiat Grande Punto van is the smallest in the Fiat van range.
Designed for easy city driving and including compact dimensions and a small turning circle, the van brings with it all the design highlights and handling of the hatchback version.
However, it offers one cubic metre of storage space in the rear and a payload capacity of 520kg.
More cosmetic touches include a choice of three colours; white, dark blue and red. Inside the new Fiat Grande Punto Evo van the Italian van maker has updated the seat fabrics in higher specification models and added a new dashboard design.
The new Fiat Grande Punto van comes with electric windows, body coloured mirrors, radio/CD player and electric steering as standard.
It also comes with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to improve grip in corners and Brake Assistance system as standard to improve safety.
Fiat has introduced a selection of its frugal engines to the Grande Punto van and the result is one of the greenest and most efficient small vans on UK roads.
A single engine, a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel, comes in 75, 85 and 95bhp power outputs. The two more powerful versions come with stop-start technology to help save fuel and offer CO2 emissions as low as 90g/km and fuel economy up to 80.7mpg.
The new Fiat Grande Punto van will go on sale in the UK at the end of April in Fiat UK van dealerships. Fiat Grande Punto prices start from £10,990 before VAT.
