Hybrid Ford C-Max takes green award

The Ford C-Max Energi has been named the winner of the 2012 Green Car Vision Award by Green Car Journal in the US just days after a diesel version of the five-seat MPV took the BusinessCar Best MPV award in the UK.

While the diesel Ford C-Max is on sale in the UK, a plug-in hybrid version is not yet on sale. It is being planned for a 2013 launch and will be the first hybrid Ford car to go on sale in the UK.

The Ford C-Max Energi is a versatile green car. Designed to run on electric power alone, petrol power or a combination of both, it promises to be the first C-Max to fall into Band A of UK Vehicle Excise Duty (VED).

It will also deliver fuel economy above that of the new Ford C-Max diesel and petrol engine models when it finally arrives in the UK. It will also offer a driving range of 500 miles – much longer than an electric car and even a range-extended electric vehicle such as the Vauxhall Ampera.

The most recent award is designed to honour the best visions of green cars in future but all models must be close to production.

The award has been dominated by Ford cars in recent years with the Ford Focus Electric taking the title in 2011.

The new Ford C-Max is available to buy in the UK from £17,445. Two trim levels are offered with the C-Max; Zetec and Titanium and a range of petrol and diesel engines are available.
