If you are in the market to buy an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Italian car maker’s small family hatchback, then chances are you will go for a certain specification.

If you are looking to buy an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, you’ll be around 40 years of age, have a high level of education and will choose the 1.6-litre, 105hp diesel engine on a white Giulietta.

At least, this is according to Alfa Romeo, whose sales figures of the Giulietta have revealed the most popular models and information about the average Alfa buyer.

Since its release in 2010 the Giulietta has been favoured by drivers with an average age of 40 and a medium-high level of education, according to Alfa.

However, it has slowly become a universal choice in the likes of the family car market with nearly half of all sales to customers looking to use the Giulietta as a family vehicle.

In terms of engine choices for the Giulietta, the majority of sales have tipped towards slightly more powerful engines. The two most popular engines in the range are the 170 hp 1.4 MultiAir, accounting for 15 per cent of sales, and the 105 hp 1.6 MultiJet, 35 per cent.

Exterior paint jobs for the Giulietta are quite a big thing because Alfa trades on its emotive designs. With the likes of the Ford Focus as competition, the desirability of the Giulietta hatchback in terms of design is important.

Although you would expect large sales in the red colour range, a colour readily associated with a sporty Italian car, it only accounts for six per cent of sales.

The most popular colour is Ghiaccio White claiming 35 per cent of sales, which is mainly due to its appearance in the Uma Thurman advert, a factor which also helped bump sales for women up to 20 per cent.

On a whole, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta is the most popular model because it offers style, easy and fun manoeuvrability on the road, as well as top notch safety features like ESC and an anti-whiplash system.

All of these features tick the boxes for being a stylish and fun to drive sports car, as well as a practical car for the family.

The fact it mostly appeals to 40-ish drivers with a higher level of education, and its undoubted focus on style and premium design, the choice of Thurman as brand ambassador looks like a good one.
