Used car expert Glass Guide has revealed used car prices have dropped by between 2.5 per cent and three per cent as customers look for lower prices, but 4x4s are the exception to the rule.
The popularity of 4×4 cars means dealerships could be in short supply by January and customers are being urged to buy now before stock levels run low.
Glass Guide says some cars will be “particularly difficult to source in January with 4x4s at the top of most people’s lists.”
Most used car buyers “need to have a combination of low running costs, good specification and an affordable price. This attitude holds true whether a customer has £5,000 or £25,000 to spend,” says Glass Guide.
However, this is good news for customers looking to buy a used car because it has led to some ‘eye-watering discounts’.
Typically, 4×4 sales increase in winter because of the effects of the weather. More buyers look for cars capable of offering extra grip and traction in wet, icy and snowy weather during the winter months.
This means a surge in popularity for used 4×4 cars such as used Vauxhall Antara, Chevrolet Captiva and Ford Kuga models.
More luxurious 4×4 used cars are also popular, including the all-new Range Rover Evoque, the more rugged Land Rover Freelander and the Land Rover Defender van.
Dealerships such as Perrys Land Rover in Huddersfield will be stocking Land Rover cars in preparation for expected high demand for the brand, while other Perrys dealerships will be preparing for requests for new and used 4×4 cars in the coming months.
