The new Clio Renaultsport 200 Raider is based on the small hot hatch which has earned plaudits for being one of the most fun performance hatchbacks to drive.
The Raider is essentially a more upmarket trim level for the hot hatch with the most eye-catching feature the introduction of matt paint for the first time on a Renault performance car.
Available in red and grey paint options, the new Raider model also adds gloss black roof and rear spoiler and 18″ alloy wheels to replace the 17″ ones used on the 200.
Renault’s name is ubiquitous in F1 and the racing series is the inspiration for the new front blade and Bridgestone tyres, which are the same as those used on Renault’s flagship hot hatch, the Renaultsport265 Trophy.
On the road, the Clio Renaultsport 200 gets a lower ride height and improvements to the steering and brake callipers.
As expected, the Clio Renaultsport 200 gets its own badges and a unique numbered plate inside – an important feature given just 50 will be sold in the UK to boost exclusivity of the car.
Standard equipment includes satellite navigation, Bluetooth, climate control and even Renaultsport carpet mats to match performance with comfort inside the cabin.
As for performance, the Raider remains unchanged from the 200 in terms of engine option. This means a 2.0-litre engine delivering 200bhp and 215Nm of torque.
This offers a 0-62mph time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 141mph but fuel economy is a respectable 34.4mpg and CO2 emissions just scrape under the 200g/km mark.
Prices for the new Clio Renaultsport 200 Raider have not been announced but they will be higher than the £15,750 standard 200.
The car will go on sale in the UK in October and with only 50 available, it is expected to sell out quickly.
