The large 4×4 is symbolic of Land Rover’s off-road, go-anywhere ability, and unsurprisingly, topped the charts in the annual Towcar Awards in 2011.
Despite missing out on the top award, the Discovery 4 picked up the best Towcar in the highest weight category (1900kg), making it the best car on the market for heavier loads.
The award, courtesy of Practical Caravan and What Car? magazine, with Nigel Donnelly, editor of Practical Caravan stating it would take a ‘really exceptional car to beat it’ to the award it received both this year and last.
He added: "The Land Rover Discovery 4 is a tremendous car to tow with. Its high-speed stability is the equal of any car- line the outfit up on a straight road and you could almost drive it blindfold. If you have the means, the Discovery remains an exceptionally good towcar."
However, it wasn’t the only honour bestowed on the 4×4 Discovery after the British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards (BIVSA) decided the car had the best standard security package in the 4×4 market.
The commercial version of the SUV topped its category because of the security features offered on the car, making the Discovery not only the best for towing, but the least likely to be stolen as well.
Colin Green, managing director of Land Rover UK, said: "These latest awards further confirm the breadth of Discovery 4’s market-leading performance, as judged by independent experts. We are confident that our customers will be even more assured that they are making the right choice thanks to these and the many other honours that the Discovery 4 has received."
Available in GS, XS and range-topping HSE specification levels, Land Rover Discovery 4 prices start from £36,785 and rises to £50,785 for range-topping models.
