Citroen’s upmarket hatchback was the first in a new line of more premium, stylish cars to use the revived DS name, and the DS3 has been a runaway success.
It will celebrate the anniversary of its launch by holding a special event at the Ferte Gaucher circuit near Paris tomorrow alongside 200 of the first DS3 owners.
The Citroen DS3 was designed as a ‘halo’ car for the Citroen range in an attempt to make the French manufacturer more stylish and youthful in the eyes of buyers.
The huge range of customisable options, attractive design and premium feel to the interior have led to the DS3 being named Top Gear Car of the Year 2011 amongst various other awards.
Fitted with cruise control as standard, middle and top-level trims add extras such as LED daytime running lights, climate control, 17" alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and tinted rear windows to add a touch of exclusivity.
Under the bonnet, there is a choice of two petrol engines and two turbodiesels. In the 1.6-litre 91bhp turbodiesel, CO2 emissions are as low as 104g/km and fuel economy is an impressive 70mpg.
The car has also spawned a DS3 Racing hot hatch version and a Citroen DS3 World Rally Car which is competing in the World Rally Championships this year.
Marc Raven, Communications Director at Citroën UK, commented; "DS3 has proven to be a landmark success for Citroën, and a celebration like this is richly deserved. The reception from owners across Europe has been emphatically positive, and this event will be a real reflection of the DS3 spirit."
The next model in the DS Line, the Citroen DS4 hatchback will be released in the UK in the next few months and a larger still DS5 is expected to be revealed later in the year.
