In the true spirit of the public vote, staff at RCT Homes were asked to test a range of large vans from a number of manufacturers, before filling out a survey to choose their favourite.
The Renault Master van, the French manufacturer’s answer to the best-selling Ford Transit, was the clear winner ‘across the board’, according to the housing organisation.
The vans will be used by maintenance workers looking after homes on more than 60 housing estates and in 27 housing schemes, and it was the level of equipment which impressed workers the most.
Andrew Rigby, Housing Maintenance Unit Plasterer, said: "By involving us in the decision making process it has meant that the boys are happy that the new vans are equipped to our personal trades. This will be of great benefit to our day-to-day work."
Standard Master vans come with TomTom satellite navigation, electric windows, anti-intruder device and a CD MP3 radio with Bluetooth. Rear wheel drive versions also benefit from electronic stability control.
Darren Payne, Renault UK’s Director of Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Operations said, "When it comes to choosing a fleet, there’s no one better to make the decision than the very people who will be driving these vans every day."
The Renault Master van comes in a huge range of body styles including panel van, crew van, chassis cab, platform cab, box van, dropside, tipper and minibus.
Prices for the panel van versions starts from £21,035 for the medium wheelbase, medium roof diesel model.
