Hard to believe that the current Ford Focus is fast approaching the end of the line because it seems only yesterday that I went to the press launch for its mid-life facelift but time stands still for none of us.
So this all new Focus that you see here will be in our showrooms next spring, ready to take the fight to its newer rivals.
I’ve been around the motor trade for long enough to know that the newcomer will take the Focus story a big step forwards but it’s hard to see just how much better it will be than the current version.
I mean, today’s Focus is still a seriously good car, one that has to be considered a class leader even against younger rivals such as the new Vauxhall Astra and the very impressive Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
But I have no doubt that Ford will sprinkle its magic on its new Focus – personally I can’t wait to get behind the wheel.
We’ll see it in the metal at next month’s Paris Motor Show (in five-door and estate form) and I’m delighted to hear that Ford plans to announce details of a new high performance version at the show too.
The new Focus is still several months away though and in the meantime you can be sure that there are going to be some exceptionally keen deals on the run-out stocks of this current model. Watch this space for details!
