‘Eco wheels’ could cut Land Rover emissions

The claim has been made by premium wheel manufacturer Solomon Alsberg, which has developed 19-22" wheels designed to weigh 35 per cent less than a traditional cast wheel for premium brands such as Land Rover.

The wheels are said to improve handling, steering and acceleration as well as reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by as much as ten per cent.

The company has tested the wheels with a premium saloon and found acceleration improved by 2.8 per cent.

It will be the first time the wheels, known as Eco Super Light forged alloy wheels, are available to Land Rover owners in the UK.

"We’re delighted to be launching such high technology wheels in the UK aftermarket," explains Aleksandr Aksentyev, manager, Solomon Alsberg.

"In designing a super light wheel we sought to boost vehicle performance while also recognising the need to reduce CO2 emissions and help improve fuel economy. It’s very much a twenty-first century product design: efficient and environmentally conscious."

Prices for the wheels have not been announced as the Russian manufacturer is still finalising its distribution network in the UK, but Range Rover, Discovery and Freelander drivers will be able to get their hands on the new wheels in the next few months.
