Citroen models finished top of four of the awards categories – more than any other manufacturer – in the awards to celebrate the best in preventing theft, aiding vehicle recovery and raising customer awareness of security issues.
The judges named the French manufacturer as the best choice for a secure family car after the Citroen C4 and Citroen C5 finished top of the small family car and family car categories respectively. Both models retained the awards after winning them in 2009.
The C4 Picasso won the compact MPV category and the Citroen C6 completed Citroen’s haul in the executive car category, ahead of more expensive premium models from Audi and Volvo.
In the performance car category, an area Citroen is not usually associated with, the Citroen C4 coupe caused a shock by finishing third.
All models were tested by motor insurance researcher Thatcham in two areas; theft from a car and theft of a car. Features such as ignition, steering and windows were examined before the cars were given a five-star rating in each category.
In recent years, Citroen models have included security features such as hard-to-break laminated side windows and alarms on higher trim levels such as the Exclusive specification.
