Seat unveils most powerful car ever

The Cupra R badge, last seen on a Seat model in 2006, is back on the five-door Leon Cupra R and the latest iteration continues the badge’s reputation for high performance.

The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivers 350Nm of torque – more than rival hot-hatch models from Honda (Civic Type R), Lotus (Exige) and Alfa Romeo (Brera).

Not only is the Leon Cupra R the most powerful Seat UK production car, it is the fastest too. The Spanish hot-hatch has a top speed of 155mph and a 0-62mph time of 6.2 seconds.

The high performance all comes from an enhanced engine complete with high pressure fuel injection pump and reworked ratios matched to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Seat has marketed the Cupra R as an explosive Latin hot-hatch – and the sports seats and sporty engine cover emphasise the direction the manufacturer has taken with the latest Leon.

As expected, the Leon Cupra R is liberally adorned with ‘R’ design features, including a high level rear spoiler, 19" alloy wheels and exclusive ‘R’ badging.

Available in a number of bright, sunny colours, the exterior boasts a sports-oriented twin central exit exhaust and gloss black highlighting.

The price of the Seat Leon Cupra R, at £25,205, puts the hot-hatch up against the BMW 120i M Sport Coupe.
