There are many factors that are required to make a Fast and Furious movie. Cool characters, superb stunts, awesome action and a veritable serving of villainy. Motoring journalist, Tim Barnes-Clay, reports.
Sizzling Hot Metal
Above all else, the Fast and Furious franchise needs sizzling hot metal to make you salivate with desire. Yep, we’re talking about insanely quick cars that even make non-petrolheads drool. We’ve selected four of the most legendary motors that have starred in the lucrative series of Fast and Furious movies. Perrys’ picks have been assembled below. Is your choice of car in this quartet?
1. Ford Mustang
Formerly maintained by Major Boswell, Sean and his associates renovate the Mustang in 2006’s Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and drive it to race against Takashi in a drift challenge. After some close shaves, Sean steers to victory after Takashi’s car nose-dives off a mountain. Another Ford Mustang was handled by Roman Pearce in 2013’s Fast and Furious 6.
2. Nissan Skyline GT-R R34
Brian O’Conner is behind the wheel of this Skyline in 2 Fast 2 Furious. He uses the supercar to join in Tej Parker’s street battle. The 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 didn’t have any other drivers and ended up being seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection – and is most probably still under lock and key. Comparable Nissan Skylines were included in the 2009 Fast & Furious film. Ahead of going covert, Brian makes use of The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) database to get his hands on a blue 2002 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R and a white Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R for a contest.
3. Mazda RX-7
Piloted by Han Seoul-Oh in Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, both man and machine come to a fateful end after a smash with Deckard Shaw. Sean Boswell also fleetingly drives this specific Mazda. Various other RX-7s also feature in the movie franchise. A couple of RX-7 FD’s appear in the initial film – a white Mazda that Letty Ortiz raced against, and a red one steered by Dominic Toretto. In addition, Orange Julius hammered an RX-7 in 2 Fast 2 Furious.
4. Nissan GT-R R35
In 2015’s Furious 7, a Nissan GT-R R35 is a star attraction, once again driven by Brian O’Conner. Like many other autos in the Fast and Furious set of films, this Nissan GT-R gets an early trip to the scrapyard in the sky when it’s blown up by missiles. An undisputed favourite of the franchise, various other Nissan GT-R R35’s have surfaced in the films, all with Brian at the wheel.
