Extra Road Safety Boost Pledged

Brake, a road safety charity, has announced an additional Pledge training course ahead of Road Safety Week 2016 – 21-27 November.

This year’s Road Safety Week theme focuses on the Pledge and its six core principles of safe driving; Slow, Sober, Secure, Silent, Sharp and Sustainable. Many employers use the Week as a springboard to launch year-round safety programmes, and the Pledge training course is a key tool for engaging employees with these key road safety messages.

Official figures show that at least 10 people are killed each week and 100 seriously injured in crashes involving people driving for work, however, this is likely to be a substantial underestimate as journey purpose is not always recorded by the police at crash scenes.

Brake’s Pledge training aims to tackle this worrying figure by providing employers with the tools to educate at-work drivers on six key areas of road safety. This essential training course offers practical tools and resources on effectively engaging staff and managing road risk. The additional Pledge course will take place on 6 October in Birmingham. Pledge training courses are also taking place on 14 September in Manchester, and 6 December in Swindon.

Ellie Pearson, of Brake, says: “The Pledge provides employers with the training and tools to educate and engage their staff with essential road safety messages. It’s incredibly versatile and can be used by organisations with existing road safety programmes as a supplementary resource, providing an interactive course and additional online resources to support current policies. It also provides the perfect foundation for organisations just beginning their road risk management journey, and the timing of this additional course means that it can be used to launch new road safety initiatives during Road Safety Week.”
