Fantastic Fords Fascinate Fans

Fans of one of the most iconic car brands in the world enjoyed a fantastic spectacle at The International Ford Show, which took place recently at Sandown Park, Surrey.

Celebrity guests including Ant Anstead from Channel 4’s For the Love of Cars, Touring Car legend Barrie ‘Whizzo’ Williams and Fifth Gear presenter Tiff Needell drew big crowds, with Ant enjoying the chance to be reunited with the Escort Mexico that he restored for the first series of the popular show, which is due to return in late 2016 or early 2017.

Sierra RS500

Tiff, meanwhile, got to sit in a Sierra RS500 Cosworth that was almost identical to the one he drove in the 1989 British Touring Car Championship, part of the show’s Ford in Motorsport display. Tiff drew in a huge crowd recounting his tales of past motorsport glories.

A Ford-only auction saw some strong prices – a right-hand drive Mustang first owned by the president of Ford of Europe sold for £30,000, a classic 1965 Mustang Coupe went for £26,000 and an F-150 pick-up first owned by former England football captain David Beckham sold for £11,800.

Fiesta and Focus RS

The two-day show celebrated Ford icons old and new, including a special display to mark 40 years of the Fiesta and a feature celebrating 50 years of the iconic Essex V6 engine, while the very latest Mustang and Ford Focus RS made their UK show debuts.

Event manager Kat Chappell said: “We’re very proud to have added another event to the Ford calendar, and look forward to building on the achievements of The International Ford Show to build an even bigger and better event for next year. It’s clear that the enthusiasm out there for Ford cars means there’s demand for this type of event, which is just one of a series of Ford events we are hosting this year.”

The next event in the series is the Classic Ford Show, which takes place at Santa Pod, Bedfordshire, on Sunday 5 June.
