Josh Price has announced he will contest a full season of the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2016 with the reigning champion team, Team Pyro, after dazzling for the Leicester squad as a rookie in last year’s final six rounds.
Former world karting ace Price impressed immediately with his pace in Rockingham’s and Silverstone’s rounds in September before going on to achieve a best result of fourth in the season finale at Brands Hatch. The 17-year-old clearly believes that with some additional testing he can go into the new season a contender for podium results on a regular basis. Among his team-mates in the Pyro line-up will be returning 2014 Champion Mike Bushell.
Price commented: “I’ve got everything there to do well – the equipment is right, I’m with the right team and I have the right people around me. I also feel confident in my own technical ability after everything I learnt in those three events last year.
“Rockingham was my first ever car race but even by Silverstone I was up there fighting near the front with drivers who’d already had three years in cars. I’ve still got to learn the other circuits on the calendar, but I’d be silly not to be thinking of going for the title in 2016.”
Pyro Team Principal Mark Hunt said: “Josh is a very exciting driver for the future with natural pace and aggression so we’re very glad to have kept him on board for 2016. He and Mike are doubtless going to push one another on occasion and even before we announce our other drivers I believe already we have two extremely strong team-mates going into this season.”
Will Fewkes, Renaultsport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager, added: “Josh proved very rapid and also adapted very quickly to the cut and thrust type of racing in the UK Clio Cup when he came into the championship towards the end of last season. It was impressive stuff from a young driver straight out of karts and he is clearly now in a position to do extremely well in his first full season of car racing. It will be very interesting to see how he compares to Mike Bushell as his team-mate.”
All of the UK Clio Cup’s races in 2016 will take place at the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship’s high-profile events – meaning huge trackside crowds and live television coverage on ITV4. The first of those events takes place at Brands Hatch in Kent (Sat 2/Sun 3 April).
