Ford sales at their best since 1989

Ford has recorded its best sales figures in the UK for more than a quarter of a century, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Last month, Ford sold a total of 33,055 new vehicles in the country, a full 3,033 ahead of its closest rival, continuing Ford’s status as the UK market leader with a 44 per cent increase over June 2014.

Any Barratt, Ford UK’s chairman and managing director, said: “I am delighted that, as the UK market records its 40th consecutive month of growth, we have consolidated and extended our long-standing UK market leadership.

Best sales in 25 years!

“We have invested consistently in exciting products and industry-leading technologies that are delivered through the strongest UK dealer network.

“Our extended CV range is providing outstanding sales results and the roll out of new models includes C-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy, Mustang and Mondeo Vignale.”

The figures from the SMMT showed that total car sales in the UK for June were up a full 12.9 per cent over last year, with 1,376,889 cars sold in Britain this year to date.

Currently, the Ford Fiesta maintains its position as the number-one selling car in the UK for the seventh year running, with more than 12,500 finding new homes last month alone.

Fiesta still the best-selling car in the UK

Not just that, but the B-MAX, C-MAX and Focus all occupied the top three places in their respective market segments for the year to date, alongside the Ford Kuga and the Galaxy people carrier.

Ford’s success also extended to their commercial vehicle range, which helped to buoy up commercial vehicle sales around the country by 18.4 per cent compared with last June.

Total sales of Ford commercial vehicles, which include vans like the Ford Transit, were at their best ever for June, with 10,547 Ford commercial vehicles sold thorough last month.

Success for Ford’s commercial vehicle range

This follows on from an exceptional five awards won by Ford for its commercial vehicle range back in March, when the carmaker was commended at the 2015 VansA2Z Awards.

Ford’s Transit Courier received the standout prize of the night with the Editor’s Choice award, while the Transit Custom also took the Small Panel Van of the Year award for the third year running.

As well as that, the Transit was named Large Panel Van of the Year and also honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award, while the Fiesta van was named Best Small Van.
