Now you can 3D print your own Ford Mustang!

Ford has opened a new 3D Store, complete with downloadable 3D printer files so you can print your very own cars at home.

In total, you can choose from a Fiesta ST, Focus ST or F-150 Raptor, as well as the Shelby GT350R version of the Ford Mustang and the new GT supercar.

Unfortunately for anybody hoping to drive off in one, while the 3D files can be used to print a model in any scale or substance you want, they’re only scale models and not the actual cars.

Printable Mustang, Fiesta or Ford GT!

Still, the choice of either the printable file schematics or a pre-printed model is pretty neat, and should appeal to anybody with a 3D printer and a love of performance cars.

Mark Bentley, Ford’s licensing manager, said: “3D printing at home is a growing trend, and it makes sense for us to offer our customers a chance to make their own 3D Ford models.

“At Ford we’re using 3D printing every day to rapidly prototype parts, and now we want to share that fun with our fans.”

Ford has been using 3D printing to develop components and prototypes for a number of years now, and developed a process to create special creative design mock-ups using sand.

The 3D sand technology has already been used to design cars like the new Ford C-Max and the Ford Explorer, while it was also used in the development of the EcoBoost engine range.

3D printing technologies allows the manufacturer to construct working models of anything it designs, replicating even the smallest and most intricate engine parts to see how they work.

It can also be used to create various mock-ups with a number of slight variations in their design relatively quickly and cheaply, with Ford hoping that it will boost efficiency and reduce the time to bring vehicles to market.

3D printing popular with classic car fans

As well as that, the process has also become popular with owners of classic cars, who are now able to create spare parts for their cars which may have since become obsolete and unavailable.

The 3D models and files are available to download from the Ford website now, while the manufacturer’s range of new cars and vans can be bought from Perrys Ford dealerships.
