The new Renault Twingo has picked up yet another accolade in the form of the Design of the Year award at this year’s 2015 Fleet World Honours.
Launched in the UK last autumn, the quirky Twingo has wasted no time in scooping a number of major industry awards, including prizes from the Top Gear Magazine Awards and British GQ Car Awards.
Alex Grant, Fleet World magazine’s deputy editor, said that the Twingo’s design combines elements of Renault’s two main areas of expertise, small cars and MPV people carriers.
‘Chic styling and a small, manoeuvrable body’
He added: “Its chic styling is a nod to the Renault 5, while the rear-mounted engine enables a large and flexible interior to fit into a small, manoeuvrable body. Clever, customisable and great value, it represents Renault at its very best.”
The third generation Twingo features an innovative rear-engined, rear-wheel drive layout that allows it to make the best use of its internal space, and also makes it more nimble around town and on the move.
“With its bold and playful design, we always knew that our All-New Twingo would be a hit,” said Ken Ramirez, Renault UK’s managing director.
He added: “We’re delighted that the judges from the 2015 Fleet World Honours agree and have decided to add to Twingo’s tally of major industry awards with this ‘Design of the Year’ accolade.”
Available in four trim levels, standard equipment throughout the Twingo range includes Renault’s new smartphone-compatible R & GO system, which allows drivers access to a wide variety of navigation and multimedia functions.
Body-coloured bumpers, door handles and mirror shells are also standard, as is a rear spoiler and LED daytime running lights. Power steering, electric windows and remote central locking are included, as is a speed limiter, trip computer and lane-change functions.
Stepping up from the entry-level Expression trim, the Play version adds air conditioning, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, plus 15-inch black two-tone wheels.

The range-topping Dynamique versions also come with pinstripe decals, front fog lamps and heated mirrors in addition to the previous equipment.
Powered by a choice of three-cylinder engines, the new model offers up to 14mpg greater fuel economy than the last generation Twingo, along with up to 35g/km lower CO2 emissions.
Available to buy from Perrys Renault dealerships around the country, prices for the all-new Renault Twingo start from just £9,495 for the entry-level Expression model.
