Millionth Kia Cee’d rolls off the production line

The one millionth Kia Cee’d to be manufactured in Europe has officially rolled off the line at Kia’s production facility in Slovakia.

Having playing a significant role in Kia’s success since its introduction to the market nine years ago, the Cee’d currently accounts for more than 21 per cent of the company’s total European sales.

Introduced as the very first Kia car to be designed, engineered and manufactured exclusively in Europe for European drivers, the Cee’d single-handedly helped put Kia on the map outside of Korea.

One of Kia’s top selling cars

Last year, Kia sold more than 13,000 Cee’d cars in the UK, making it the Korean marque’s third best-selling vehicle, right behind the popular Sportage and Picanto models.

Artur Martins, Kia Europe’s vice president for marketing, said: “The Cee’d has helped establish Kia in Europe as a maker of high-quality, well-designed cars, and it has been one of the key drivers behind our continued growth and success in the region.

“I’d like to congratulate all my colleagues at Kia Motors Slovakia on this latest milestone, and thank the million customers who have made the Cee’d such a popular model.”

He added: “Since we began production in 2006, the cee’d range has come a long way, with Sportswagon and Pro_Cee’d three-door hatchback models expanding the line-up and taking us into new segments of the market.

“Our high-performing GT models, launched in 2013, have once again put us in front of a more emotional buyer, seeking great design and an enjoyable driving experience.

“Our future plans for the Cee’d will continue to develop a model that has been the foundation upon which we have built the success of the Kia brand in Europe.”

Sporty new GT Line models on the way

Later in the year, Kia is due to introduce the new GT Line model to the Cee’d range, blending the style and sportiness of the GT-badged models with the versatility of the conventional line-up.

Available across the entire Cee’d family of cars, the GT Line models will also signal the introduction of Kia’s new 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, along with a new seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Prices have yet to be announced for the new Kia Cee’d GT Line range, though the current Kia Cee’d is available to buy now, with prices starting from £14,805 for the entry-level trim.
