Range Rover Sport SVR takes home Autocar Star Award

The new Range Rover Sport SVR has been awarded with a coveted Autocar Star Award at this year’s Autocar Stars ceremony.

Reserved only for the elite set of cars that receive an overall five-star rating during the magazine’s in-depth road tests, the SVR was one of only three cars to receive the maximum review rating.

In its road test of the Range Rover Sport SVR, Autocar stated: “No rival better mixes handling prowess, off-road talent and an SUV sense of functional plushness.

“But more importantly, none comes close to capturing the perfect savagery and lewd sense of fun it keeps so amply on tap.”

John Edwards, the managing director for Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations division, who engineered the SVR, said: “Obtaining a full five-star verdict in Autocar is a fantastic achievement and one which we are extremely proud of.

“Receiving such an award from one of the most experienced road testing teams in the industry independently endorses the SVR’s outstanding dynamics, pace and overall capability.”

He added: “This award is made all the more special by the fact that the Range Rover Sport SVR is the very first product to emanate from the SVO division and it’s a fantastic achievement for the team.”

The pinnacle of performance Land Rovers, the Range Rover Sport SVR is the fastest production SUV on the planet, with a 550bhp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine.

It’s also the first model to wear the new SVR badge that’s due to be adopted by future high-performance Land Rover and Jaguar models, and comes with a choice of new 21-inch or 22-inch alloy wheels.

Features include sports seats to glue the driver and occupants in place, alongside an all-aluminium body, which keeps its weight low to improve its performance on both road and track.

Other dramatic additions include a two-stage active exhaust with quad pipes at the rear, which gives a deeper sound and also boosts performance in the higher rev bands.

It also comes with a range of exciting visual tweaks, with a deep front bumper adorned with aggressively-styled air intakes to improve cooling, while the rear bumper features a diffuser.

The new Range Rover Sport SVR will be sold alongside the standard Land Rover range and customers can order it now, with prices beginning from £93,450.
