The first image of the all-new Kia Optima saloon has been officially unveiled by the manufacturer ahead of its public debut at the New York Auto Show next week.
Following on from the concept teaser pictures released earlier in the month, the new Optima retains the same sleek, low and muscular dimensions as the teaser images.
Stylistic themes carried over from the rest of Kia’s range includes the signature tiger-nose grille, while it also stays close to the new Sportspace concept, which was revealed to be a preview of the new Optima.
‘Multiple engines, more spacious interior’
Details are still scarce, but Kia has said that the new Optima will be available with multiple engine choices and a more spacious interior than the outgoing previous model.
In addition, the Korean marque says it’ll also come with a range of premium features more often found in more expensive cars, plus new technology not previously available with the Optima.
Following its unveiling in New York on April 1st, the new Optima is expected to go on sale in the UK later this year, with the Sportspace joining the range as the first-ever Optima estate model.
It’s also expected that it’ll come with a reworked version of the same 1.7-litre turbodiesel engine in the outgoing Optima, while a hybrid is also possible, to compete with rivals like the new hybrid Mondeo.
Earlier in the month, Kia was reported to be angling to increase its popularity in the marketplace with the introduction of a new model offensive, including putting more emphasis on sportier cars.
More new Kias on the way
According to the reports, the key to achieving this will come from new models like the Optima, along with the new Sorento SUV and upcoming upgrades for the Venga and Rio ranges.
Kia UK’s CEO, Paul Philpott, said: “This year we launch our all-new Sorento in April, we have major enhancements to our core Picanto and Rio ranges plus an update of Venga.
“Later in the year we will see exciting developments in the Cee’d range and an all-new Optima.”
Pricing and specifications for the all-new Kia Optima have yet to be announced, but it’s expected that more information will be released upon its official unveiling next week.
