Vauxhall Agila most reliable car in Europe

The Vauxhall Agila supermini has officially been named the most reliable car in Europe by warranty firm Warranty Direct.

Warranty Direct analysed a range of vehicles that were an average of five years old with mileages approximately in and around the 50,000 miles range to assess how reliable cars are in the real world.

From data collected by the company from a database full of more than 50,000 live warranty policies, it then calculated a ‘Reliability Index’ score and tallied up the results.

Impressive reliability score

Each score was based on several key criteria like the frequency of failure, cost of repair and how long each car can go between repairs, with a lower score indicating a more reliable car.

Out of all the models analysed by the company, the Agila came out on top with an extremely impressive Reliability Index of 9. Second and third places were taken by the Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 with scores of 18 and 20 respectively.

According to the information, faults with the diminutive Agila hatchback are few and far between, and when faults do arise with the car they’re cheap, easy and quick to fix.

David Gerrans, Warranty Direct’s managing director, said: “It’s good to see a British manufacturer at the top of the table, especially at a time when Britain’s automotive industry is flying high.

“Our data also highlights that Swedish, Czech, Spanish and French carmakers are all more reliable than their often celebrated German counterparts, which will surprise some consumers, who may still assume that German cars are the most durable.”

On the other side of the scale, the Audi RS6 was reported to be the worst car for reliability, with a shocking Reliability Index score of 1,123 and costly axle and suspension problems reportedly common.

German brands ‘surprisingly unreliable’

Alongside that, the bottom end of the scale was further populated by German brands, with the BMW M5 and Porsche 996 completing the bottom three with scores of 766 and 652.

Matching the practicality of a city car with the space of a mini MPV, the Vauxhall Agila isn’t just reliable, but can comfortable seat up to five adults despite its diminutive exterior dimensions.

Available from Perrys dealerships now and packed with a range of useful functions and kit, the Agila is also highly customisable, available in a total of 10 colours and is also extremely affordable.
