Citroen has revealed its new upmarket version of the DS5 ahead of its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.
Designed to stand out from the rest of Citroen’s range, and introducing a host of new styling touches and equipment, the DS5 represents Citroen’s latest phase in its attempt to shift upmarket.
“Concept car on wheels”
Thierry Metroz, head of DS styling, said: “Referred to as a concept car on wheels, the DS 5 is a unique creation with expressive, hypnotic styling.
“For the new DS 5 we wanted to maintain the strong points that are a key part of its identity, while giving further emphasis to DS styling cues. The most symbolic example of course is the front end.”
The facelifted DS5 now features an impressive new front end, with a sculpted vertical grille and chrome strip running from the Xenon LED headlights to the A pillars, plus a new Ink Blue finish.
On the inside, Citroen has outfitted the DS5 with a range of lavish materials, including tasteful aluminium notes and ‘watch strap’ two-tone upholstery crafted from fine semi-aniline leather.
Citroen says that the cockpit-style cabin has been built specifically around the driver, with centrally-positioned control consoles, plus ergonomically-placed dials, buttons and gearing inspired by aeroplanes.
The new DS5 also features a cutting-edge touchscreen interface, which allows easy access to all in-car functions, from navigation to music, while simplifying and streamlining the dashboard design.
Mirror Screen technology comes as standard, while drivers can also specify the DS Connect Box, which includes automatic emergency assist, which contacts emergency services in an accident.
Other features include blind spot and lane departure warning systems, plus automatic high beam control, intelligent traction control and a reversing camera in addition to a heads-up display.
Citroen has also included massaging front seats, dual-zone automatic air conditioning and keyless entry, plus heated door mirrors, ambient interior lighting and a Denon hi-fi system.
Highly efficient engines
A new range of efficient engines is available in the DS5 range, with power outputs ranging between 118bhp and 207bhp, and can manage up to an impressive 74.3mpg fuel economy rating.
Each engine comes with a choice of six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, while a Hybrid 4×4 model is also available, combining a hybrid diesel-electric powertrain and four-wheel drive.
Citroen claims that the Hybrid 4×4 model generates over 200bhp in total and provides a powerful driving sensation, but with fuel economy of over 80mpg and CO2 emissions below 100g/km.
The new facelifted DS5 is due to make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, and is slated to go on sale in the UK this July.
