Jaguar has enlisted the help of world-renowed British actor Idris Elba to test out the new Jaguar XE, by sending him on an epic 750-mile road trip.
Travelling from London to Berlin in the frosty conditions and capturing his journey on film, Idris will personally test the credentials of the new sports saloon, Jaguar’s most fuel-efficient model ever.
Along the way, he’ll be demonstrating the XE’s remarkable fuel efficiency, and will also have to rely on its range of in-car technology to help him navigate his way through four European countries.
Jaguar has “incredible sporting heritage”
The Wire actor said: “I have long been a fan of Jaguar’s incredible sporting heritage and have been truly impressed with how the brand has evolved over the past few years.
“My work takes me around the world, but I rarely have the time or luxury of getting behind the wheel for myself. It’s a real privilege to drive the new XE on this road trip across Europe.”
Fiona Pargeter, Jaguar Land Rover’s PR director, said that Idris is one of the first people in the world to drive the XE outside of test drivers, and will be sharing his experience with fans through the films.
She said: “As a keen driver with a passion for cars, technology and music, Idris is sure to enjoy his exclusive test of the new Jaguar XE.
“We look forward to seeing how he achieves an economical drive despite challenging winter conditions.”
Powered by a range of four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, including Jaguar’s all-new Ingenium diesel line, the XE offers unparalleled efficiency, with CO2 emissions from just 99g/km.
It also comes packed with a wide range of cutting-edge infotainment features, from smartphone app compatibility to in-car Wi-Fi and premium audio systems to keep drivers entertained.
Good enough for Bond
Alongside his critically-acclaimed performances in The Wire, Luther and Prometheus, Idris’ love of British cars and tailored suits has seen rumours fly of a possible role as the next James Bond.
Jaguar also has a long history of being involved with Bond films, with XJ models appearing in the 2006 version of Casino Royale and the famous rocket-equipped XKR from Die Another Day.
Rumours have also circulated that Jaguar’s 850bhp C-X75 hypercar could appear in the next Daniel Craig Bond film, Spectre, as the car driven by the film’s villain.
In the meantime, Idris’ short documentary film will be shared late in February, while the new Jaguar XE sports saloon is available to order now, priced from £26,995.
