Jaguar announces new F-PACE crossover

Jaguar has announced an all-new model due to join its ranks, the new Jaguar F-PACE performance crossover.

Based on the C-X17 concept unveiled by the marque at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013, the five-seater SUV marks a radical new direction for the British manufacturer.

Inspired by the F-TYPE

According to Jaguar, the F-PACE marries the flexibility and versatility of a family SUV crossover with a high-performance attitude directly inspired by the F-TYPE sports car.

Ian Callum, Jaguar’s director of design, said: “We received such an overwhelmingly positive response to the C-X17 concept car last year that we just had to make it a reality.”

He added: “The Jaguar F-PACE, inspired by the F-TYPE, represents a perfectly judged balance of performance, style and practicality.

“It offers a unique combination of Jaguar sports car inspired exterior design, fused beautifully with a thoroughly practical and spacious luxury interior. The F-PACE is our family sports car.”

The manufacturer claims that the F-PACE offers class-leading interior space and five-seat usability combined with “exceptional on-road dynamics” for a true performance SUV crossover.

While it’s the first SUV-style model produced by Jaguar, the company’s engineers claim that it will still encapsulate Jaguar’s reputation for design, handling and luxurious interior finishes.

Based on the C-X17 concept

Specs have yet to be revealed, but it’s expected that the F-PACE will be heavily based on the C-X17 concept with a lightweight aluminium bodyshell and high-output engine.

Upon its unveiling in 2013, Jaguar claimed that the C-X17 could reach speeds of over 186mph, with CO2 emissions under 100g/km, so it’s expected that the F-PACE could follow suit.

Other features in the award-winning concept model’s interior includes leather seats and in-car Wi-Fi network, plus a special heads-up display similar to that recently announced by the marque.

Andy Goss, Jaguar Land Rover’s global sales director, said: “In 2015 we will celebrate Jaguar’s 80th year.

“We have started it by announcing our first performance crossover which we consider to be the ultimate practical sports car – a car that builds on the marque’s founding ideals of Grace, Pace and Space to become one of the most innovative Jaguars we’ve ever developed.”

The F-PACE has now entered engineering and development phases in Jaguar’s Solihull facility, and the carmaker has announced that it will contribute towards the creation of 1,300 new jobs.

Further details of the all-new F-PACE performance crossover are due to be released later this year, and the model is expected to go on sale next year.
