Jaguar has walked away with a total of two prizes in hand at this year’s Scottish Car of the Year Awards.
The Jaguar F-TYPE fended off tough competition in the Coupe category to claim the top spot, while the new XE sports saloon won the first-ever Best Design and Innovation Award.
Judges presented the design award to long-time Jaguar design chief Ian Callum, who was also the recipient of a Minerva Medal for outstanding contribution to automotive design just last week.
Receiving the award, Mr Callum said that he was “extremely proud” of what Jaguar’s team of designers has achieved with the new XE.
He added: “It looks fast and its design is extremely seductive, which is a formidable combination together with the innovative engineering that features throughout the XE.”
Stephen Park, Association of Scottish Motoring Writers secretary, said: “It takes something special to raise the game in the fast paced automotive world, and that’s exactly what the Jaguar XE does.
“A clear winner of the Best Design and Innovation Award, it is a car that delivers endless style on the outside and a multitude of intelligent technical advances under the skin – the XE ticks all the boxes.”
Fuel efficient AND stylish
Unveiled earlier this year in September, the new XE is Jaguar’s new entry-level model, but also sports an extensive range of high-tech equipment, and is the most fuel-efficient Jag ever made.
Available to order in the UK now, the XE is priced from £26,995 and is due to arrive in British showrooms from Spring next year.
Jaguar’s other big hitter, the F-TYPE sports model, also enjoyed success at the Scottish Car of the Year Awards, having previously won a range of awards since its release.
The award for Best Coupe was presented to Jaguar Land Rover’s head of global PR by Alisdair Suttie, president of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers who run the awards.
He said: “This is a car that puts Jaguar right at the very top of the sector where it belongs.
“With jaw-dropping looks, great driving dynamics, and a hard top to keep off Scotland’s winter weather, the F-TYPE Coupé is a clear judges’ favourite, an immediate modern classic and a truly outstanding category winner.”
Jaguar’s latest addition to the F-TYPE range, an all-wheel drive version of the successful sports car, was unveiled last month at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Faster and more capable than any F-TYPE produced before, prices for the new four-wheel drive models start at £66,900 and the range is expected to be on sale from the middle of next year.
