What Car? has officially announced its nominees for the annual Car of the Year Awards, and one manufacturer is standing head and shoulders above the rest.

A total of eight models from the Jaguar Land Rover range have been nominated for the prestigious awards, including five Land Rover models and three Jaguars.

The five Land Rover models nominated across four categories include the Range Rover Evoque, which has been nominated for the Small SUV category, and the Range Rover in the Luxury Car class.

Both the Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Sport have received nominations for the Large SUV category, while the Range Rover Evoque Cabrio, which has been nominated for the Reader Award.

Jaguar, meanwhile, has received nominations for the F-TYPE Coupe in the Coupe Award, as well as for the Jaguar XE in the Executive Car class, while the XF was nominated for the Reader Award.

Jim Holder, What Car? editor, said: “It is an exciting time of the year releasing the challengers for the What Car? Car of the Year Awards. The build-up really starts now.

Prestigious awards

Due to take place early next year at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, the What Car? Awards are regarded as some of the most sought-after prizes in the British automotive industry.

What Car? says that its panel of judges only award cars which measure up to its exceptionally stringent criteria, while the Reader Award is a valuable indicator of how the public feels.

Previous wins by Jaguar Land Rover at the What Car? Awards have included victories for the Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar XF, all of which have been nominated again.

The Land Rover Discovery in particular has won accolades at the awards more than eight times, including seven consecutive years running, while the Evoque is no stranger to critical acclaim.

Jaguar has also previously been commended in the awards, including the futuristic C-X16 concept model which was named the Most Exciting Car to be Launched award in 2012.
