Following the reveal of the 308 GT at this year’s Paris Motor Show, Peugeot has announced that it’s to release an additional sport-oriented model.
Named the Sportium, the new special-edition 308 will sit between the Access and Active trim levels and will be priced from £17,345.
Based on the Access trim, standard kit carried over includes DAB digital radio, air conditioning and cruise control with a speed limiter.
As well as that, the new trim also gets 16-inch Diamond alloy wheels, lumbar support for the driver’s seat, plus rear parking sensors and leather trim for the steering wheel and gear knob.
Available only on the 308 hatchback, the Sportium trim comes with a 1.2-litre PureTech engine, with power outputs of either 108bhp or 128bhp.
Transmission options include five- and six-speed manual gearboxes, plus an optional six-speed automatic. Peugeot says that increased refinement keeps it running smoothly, while it also boasts emissions as low as 105g/km.
The 308 Sportium will stand alongside the other new addition to the 308 line, the 308 GT, which will be available to order from next month.
Both hatchback and SW estate versions are available, paired with a choice of five powertrain options including a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol or 2.0-litre diesel option available.
The 202bhp petrol comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and stop-start technology as standard, and Peugeot claims that it can also manage 50.4mpg with emissions of 130g/km of CO2.
On the other hand, the 178bhp diesel engine comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the carmaker claims that it can return 70.6mpg with only 103g/km of CO2.
Exterior features include 18-inch Diamant alloys, twin exhausts, tinted windows and a black lacquered rear diffuser.
There’s also a new and assertive front grille, plus other sport-inspired touches like flared wheel arches, new front air scoops and range-exclusive badging on the tailgate and grille.
On the inside, the 308 GT comes with half-Alcantara sports seats with contrasting red stitching, a race-inspired leather steering wheel and aluminium style pedals.
Prices for the 308 GT will begin at £21,345 and both models will be added to the 308 line-up when they roll into showrooms early next year.
