The Citroen C4 Cactus has officially gone on sale in the UK, priced from £12,990.
Billed by Citroen as “a bold response to the changing needs and priorities of today’s car owners”, the C4 Cactus is one of the bravest moves from the French brand in recent years.
With its distinctive crossover looks and efficient powertrains, the Cactus is aiming to take on its more conventional rivals in the B and C-segments.
Based on the DS3
Based on the same platform as the Citroen DS3, the Cactus features extensive use of lightweight materials, including an aluminium bonnet.
Weighing just 965kg, despite being taller, the model is 200kh lighter than the equivalent standard C4.
Smooth exterior lines are juxtaposed with the Cactus’ unique Airbump panels, which are designed specifically to protect the sides when in cramped urban environments.
The front of the model also features LED daytime running lights, alloy wheels ranging from 15 to 17-inch in diameter, and a wide range of personalisation options, available in a total of 10 body colours.
Despite its compact external dimensions, the C4 Cactus boasts plenty of head and legroom on the inside for five adults.
Accessible and airy, the cabin comes equipped with a front bench-like seat for three people, along with plenty of smart storage space from large storage bins.
Boot capacity is a generous 358 litres, which can expand to as much as 1,170 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Five choices of seat upholstery are available, while the Cactus also features a large panoramic roof and a wide range of technological inclusions.
Packing with tech as standard
Standard tech equipment includes automatic air conditioning, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, plus a reversing camera, cruise control and parking assist.
The engine range includes a choice of Citroen’s latest-generation petrol and diesel engines, with economy figures of up to 91.1mpg and CO2 emissions from just 82g/km.
The petrol engines include one naturally aspirated unit and another turbocharged, delivering 81bhp and 109bhp respectively. Diesels, meanwhile, offer outputs of 91bhp or 99bhp, and the most efficient figures in the range.
With a diesel, the C4 Cactus can return an official fuel consumption figure of up to 91.1mpg, while CO2 emissions are at just 82g/km.
The new Citroen C4 Cactus is available to buy now, with prices for the entry-level model beginning from £12,990 and the range-topping model starting from £18,190.
