Ford has further expanded its vehicle lineup in Europe with the addition of the new EcoSport SUV.
The all-new EcoSport mixes the toughness and flexibility of an SUV with the agility, affordability and efficiency of a small car.
It’s also the first SUV in the world to offer a 1.0-litre engine, the same award-winning EcoBoost as in the new Fiesta, and one of the first Ford vehicles in Europe available with Ford’s SYNC connectivity system.
Clever and connected
Nick Fitzgerald, EcoSport chief programme engineer, said: “All-new Ford EcoSport delivers a clever and connected small car for our European customers.
“Ford’s new urban SUV is economical, flexible and stylish, and will line-up alongside the new B-MAX compact multi-activity vehicle and the best-selling Fiesta to complete Ford’s comprehensive small car line-up for the UK.”
Having been released in Europe in February, first deliveries of the new EcoSport began in May.
With its short bonnet, raked front pillars and distinctive chrome grille, the EcoSport cuts an unmistakable silhouette on the road.
The EcoSport’s tall height and adjustable driver’s seat gives the SUV a commanding position on the road and excellent visibility. It also boasts 375 litres’ worth of storage capacity, rivalling the space of many medium-sized family cars.
Small but spacious
As well as that, there are 20 different ‘smart stowage’ solutions, which include room in the door pockets to store a large drinks bottle, a slide-out drawer under the front passenger seat, and a cooled glove box that can store up to six 350ml drink cans
Armed with the turbocharged 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine and five-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox, the EcoSport has an output of 123bhp, will do 53.3mpg and emit just 125g/km of CO2.
Also available is a 1.5-litre 110bhp petrol engine with fuel efficiency figures of 44.8mpg and 149g/km of CO2.
Finally, an 88bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine can also be specified, which achieves 6.4mpg with 120g/km of CO2 emissions, making the EcoSport one of the most eco-friendly SUVs on the market.
A wide range of equipment comes as standard, including hill start assist, cruise control, automatic headlights and wipers, along with rear parking sensors.
Ford’s SYNC in-car connectivity system, which is also available on the Fiesta and other Ford models, and enables drivers to voice-activate apps from providers like Spotify, Radioplayer and Audioteka while on the move.
With prices starting from £14,990, the new Ford EcoSport is available to buy now.
