SEAT has set a new half-year sales record in the UK, beating their own personal best for the third year running.
The Spanish carmaker reported a 20 per cent gain over last year’s performance with 27,342 units sold, outstripping sales in 2013 by nearly 5,000 units.
Spearheaded by the popular Ibiza and the award-winning Leon, SEAT’s sales outpaced the overall UK market growth by 10 per cent.
Of the total number of sales in the year so far, nearly half of those have been attributed to the Ibiza, with 11,897.
The Leon was close behind, with 11,481 models sold, which was boosted by the recent impact of the Leon ST as well as the flagship Leon Cupra hot hatch.
Neil Williamson, SEAT UK’s director, said, “It’s been a great week. Only a few days ago, we collected three prestigious trophies at the Auto Express awards and now here we are celebrating our best-ever first-half sales results in the UK.
“We’re on track for our most successful year ever, but with several more launches in the pipeline and a focus on both retail and fleet business in the months ahead, we won’t be resting on our laurels any time soon.”
Going forward, the outlook’s good for the company as a series of new and recent introductions are due to boost the carmaker’s performance further.
Mii by MANGO
The recent introduction of special edition models including the Mii by MANGO, as well as special Ibiza, Altea and Alhambra editions among others, are projected to further increase sales.
For the Mii by MANGO in particular, 50 examples of the car have already been snapped up before it has even officially launched in showrooms in early August.
As well as that, the new four-wheel drive Leon X-PERIENCE will also bring SEAT to the fold in the growing SUV/crossover market.
The company also performed well outside of the UK market in the same time frame as well, ending the first half of the year with 200,200 vehicles delivered in total, the best result for SEAT in six years.
