Double win for Nissan at Auto Express awards

Nissan have won two category awards at this year’s annual Auto Express Awards.

The carmaker’s all-new Qashqai won the Best Crossover accolade, while the company also won the Safety Award category, courtesy of their Safety Shield technologies.

New Nissan Qashqai- Best Crossover

Launched earlier this year, the new Qashqai was praised by award judges for its quality and extensive technological and safety features, as well as its fuel efficiency.

The winning model, the 1.5-litre dCi Qashqai Acenta Premium, is the most efficient model in the range, with a combined fuel consumption of 74.3mpg, and just 99g/km worth of CO2 emissions.

Steve Fowler, the Auto Express editor-in-chief, said: “The new Qashqai is an incredibly impressive car, taking all the best bits of the original model, but adding a new level of sheen to everything from the comfort to the quality.

“It makes tremendous sense as a family crossover with all the space, safety and kit you could want, while buying and running it won’t cost the earth.”

Nissan Safety Shield Technology

As well as being impressed with the Qashqai, judges at the awards were impressed by the extensive protection offered by the collection of Nissan’s Safety Shield technologies and commended the way they had introduced premium brand safety standards to the wider market.

Available on the Nissan Note, Juke and X-Trail as well as the Qashqai and forthcoming Pulsar model, the Safety Shield features up to seven advanced accident avoidance and protection technologies.

Included under the Safety Shield umbrella are driver attention alert systems, along with traffic sign recognition, forward emergency braking and a lane departure warning feature in addition to blind spot warning, moving object detected and automatic high-beam assist.

The Auto Express editor-in-chief added: “Nissan’s Safety Shield technologies bring a world of reassurance to today’s car buyers. Features that were previously the preserve of much more expensive cars have been made more accessible on a range of affordable cars, with some clever thinking and super-advanced gadgets.”

Prices for the new Nissan Qashqai range starts at £17,995 for the entry-level Visia trim, while the Acenta Premium model starts from £25,780.
