SEAT announce details of new four-wheel drive Leon crossover

SEAT have announced details for their new four-wheel drive estate crossover, the Leon X-PERIENCE.

Based on the standard Leon model, the X-PERIENCE adds extra body cladding, a 4×4 drivetrain with permanent four-wheel drive and new trim options. The ride height is also 15mm taller than the original Leon to give an off-road advantage.

Standing alongside Leon stablemates including the dynamic two-door Leon SC, the four-door standard Leon, the Leon ST estate and the high-performance Leon Cupra, SEAT claim that the X-PERIENCE is the perfect companion for an individual, varied and active lifestyle.

The Leon X-PERIENCE comes complete with a fresh and new design which gives the car its own distinct character with robust protection moulding on the door sills and wheel arches. It also has a redesigned front end with air intakes and integrated fog lamps with cornering light function, as well as an aluminium-look front spoiler and optional full LED headlights.

Likewise, the rear end is distinguished by a new bumper with aluminium-look insert and chromed end pipes. This features alongside large wheel arches, with 17 or 18-inch wheels available in a dedicated five-twin-spoke design while the roof rail is anodised in black.

There’s plenty of space in the luggage as well, with a carrying capacity of 587 litres that extends to 1,470 litres when the rear-seat backrests are folded down. That should be more than enough room for the average weekly shop or for a decent amount of luggage and suitcases.

New materials have been used for the interior of the new crossover, with black and grey high-quality fabric upholstery and the option of brown Alcantara suede or black leather seats. The door sills and steering wheel are adorned with the X-PERIENCE logo, while orange stitching gives the crossover a cheeky and adventurous injection of personality.

The car comes equipped as standard with a range of driver assistance systems including four-wheel electronic differential locks for better traction in corners and electronic stability programmes. There’s also optional adaptive cruise control with emergency braking function, drowsiness detection and lane-keeping assistance.

Easy Connect

SEAT’s on-board Easy Connect operating system is included as part of the X-PERIENCE’s infotainment system, which enables control of vehicle and entertainment functions via a touch-screen in the cockpit. This automatically senses when the driver’s fingers are near it and features intuitive and easy to use smartphone-style swipe and zoom operation.

A SEAT Sound System is also available as an optional extra, which includes a 135-watt stereo system with ten speakers, offering a clear and powerful surround-sound experience for all of the car’s five seats. This comes in addition to a dashboard-mounted centre speaker and a subwoofer in the boot.

The latest addition to the Leon range is offered with a variety of TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. The 182bhp 2.0-litre diesel is the most powerful of the lot and comes coupled with a direct-shift gearbox as standard that will do 55.3mpg and gives CO2 emissions of 133g/km.

A more frugal 148bhp version of the same engine is also available, but only with a six-speed manual gearbox and SEAT claims economy for this engine will be 57.6mpg and emissions of 126g/km of CO2. All models come fitted as standard with stop-start and energy recuperation systems to help boost economy.

Prices have yet to be announced, but SEAT said that the new Leon X-PERIENCE crossover is due to arrive in showrooms this autumn.
