The Jaguar XF Sportbrake has been named best-in-class for the third consecutive year at the Tow Car Awards 2014. The premium family estate won in the category for cars weighing from 1,700kg to 1,899kg.
At this year’s Tow Car Awards a record 56 models were tested to find the best for towing in a wide range of categories. The judging panel featured experts from the Camping and Caravanning Club and from both Practical Caravan magazine and What Car? magazine.
The nominated cars involved in the Tow Car Awards are tested on four key attributes – towing, solo driving (without towing), practicality and buying and owning.
More than ten entries competed in the 1,700-1,899kg category this year, including other premium estate cars which rival the XF Sportbrake as well as entries in the SUV market. In the end the XF Sportbrake was deemed best in this particular category yet again.
Jaguar XF Sportbrake ‘S Portfolio’
The exact specification from the Jaguar XF Sportbrake range which has won this year’s category award is the ‘S Portfolio’ trim model with the 271bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine. The V6 is linked with a sophisticated eight-speed automatic gearbox. With this unit the XF Sportbrake can go from a standstill to 60mph in 6.1 seconds, officially average 46mpg and it emits 163g/km in CO2.
“stability at speed is as good as it gets”
This year’s Tow Car Awards judges commented on the XF Sportbrake that “stability at speed is as good as it gets”. They added: “The 3.0-litre diesel engine has power to spare. This combination of unshakeable stability and effortless performance makes the XF Sportbrake such a relaxing car to tow with.
“Starting on a 1-in-6 slope was easy. The electronic parking brake held car and caravan still, then released smoothly; the low pull of the 3.0-litre engine did the rest.”
The Managing Director of Jaguar UK, Jeremy Hicks, reacted: “With the XF Sportbrake we feel we’ve built a car that boasts a class-leading combination of luxury, performance, practicality and versatility, and we’re delighted that the Tow Car Awards judging panel agrees.
“To be named best in class of this hugely competitive category for the third consecutive year is a great honour, and highlights the exacting standards that we at Jaguar demand from every aspect of every car we produce – from design, engineering and technology to customer service and after care.”
The Jaguar XF Sportbrake currently starts pricing at £31,945, increasing to £51,995 for the V6 S Portfolio specification which has won a Tow Car Award this year.
